Hans Balmer plays one of his favorite solo recital programs: masterpieces of expressive 20th century flute music and, as a contrast, early baroque variations from Jacob van Eyck's collection Der Fluyten lust-hof.

  • Edgard Varèse: Density 21.5
  • Jacob van Eyck: Stemme nova
  • Franco Evangelisti: Proporzioni; Strutture per flauto solo
  • Jacob van Eyck: Prins Robberts masco
  • Bernd Alois Zimmermann: Tempus loquendi...; Pezzi ellittici per flauto grande, flauto in sol e flauto basso
  • Jacob van Eyck: Comagain
  • Urs Peter Schneider: Zeremonienbuch

Density 21.5 by Edgard Varèse refers to the specific weight of platinum and is the first flute piece using key clicks as musical material. Proporzioni by Franco Evangelisti is rarely played and combines serial and aleatoric composition techniques. The title of Bernd Alois Zimmermann's Tempus loquendi... comes from the Ecclesiastes. Flute, alto flute and bass flute are combined to one of the most expressive contemporary flute pieces. And in the "Zeremonienbuch" by Swiss composer Urs Peter Schneider, 6 german poems by 6 poets from 6 centuries are set to music in up to 12 different ways.
